Successful Launch for Safety First Conference & Expo

21 May 2015

The first ever Safety First Conference & Expo May 26 - 29, Melbourne has launched successfully, with event organizer Reed Exhibitions very pleased with the attendance, including a significant number of C-level executives, managers and other business decision-makers responsible for their organisation's most important purchases.

The expo drew people from a broad cross section of industries, commented Matt Mullins of Big Ass Fans. Mr Mullins commented, “We have a strong safety story - providing a comfortable workspace with good thermal comfort levels has a positive impact on both OHS and productivity. At Safety First Conference & Expo we've had an interesting cross-section of people come through - an eclectic mix - and there's been a lot of interest from the right target markets. It has been good for brand recognition and educating customers about our range - it's a good show."

Key to the expo was a full speaker program, with industry experts including Prof Sidney Dekker, Griffith University, Dr Rod Gutierrez of Dupont and Shae McCartney of Clayton Utz sharing strategies for shifting workplace attitudes to safety, and 'doing safety differently'.

A major theme running through the event, established by Michelle Baxter, CEO of Safe Work Australia in her keynote opening address, was that leadership is key to the success of safety initiatives.

Ms Baxter commented that workers are more likely to comply with safety practices when it's clear they are a management priority. "Workers recognise when their boss cares about their health and safety," said Ms Baxter, noting that leadership from management is the key that will help catapult Australia to No 1 position among the world's safety cultures.

Above all, the common thread in feedback is that visitors came to the Safety First Conference & Expo to see and touch new solutions for workplace safety, says Anthony Reed, NMW 2015 Exhibition Director. “Almost everyone comes away from the event having been inspired by the possibilities that new solutions offer. A comment that was overheard more than once during this year's event is that It's just an eye-opener about the range of technologies that is available to industry,” Reed said. Reed Exhibitions has announced the details for Safety First Conference & Expo in 2016, which will run alongside NMW 2016 from May 11 - 13 in Sydney.
